Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain José Manuel Albares Bueno, who paid his first official visit to Kyiv.
The head of the Ukrainian diplomacy informed his Spanish counterpart in detail about the current security situation near the state border and in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. He underlined that Russia’s aggressive actions threatened the security not only of our state, but of the Euro-Atlantic area.
“The situation remains tense but under control. Diplomacy is continuing to lower tensions. Today it is important to understand that this is not only a threat to Ukraine's security, but also to the whole European security architecture. The way the great European community responds to this crisis will determine the future of Europe and of each European state”, Dmytro Kuleba stressed.
José Albares Bueno reaffirmed Spain’s unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and readiness for coordinated work within the EU in order to implement a comprehensive package of measures, in particular new tough sanctions, to deter Russia from further aggression.
The Ministers paid special attention to strengthening Ukraine's defense sector and capabilities.
The foreign ministers discussed the process of further European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine, the preparations for the NATO Summit in Madrid this June.
Dmytro Kuleba stressed that Ukraine is ready to actively develop cooperation with Spain in the political, trade, educational and humanitarian spheres. He confirmed the interest of our state in the first-ever visit of the Prime Minister of Spain to Ukraine.
José Albares Bueno supported Dmytro Kuleba's proposal to hold a large-scale business forum that will create new opportunities for Ukrainian and Spanish businesses and support exporters in entering new markets.
The foreign ministers agreed to hold regular political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries and the next meeting of the Ukrainian-Spanish Mixed Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Industrial Cooperation.
