Despite the challenges posed by the war, Ukraine continues to implement EU standards and climate projects. 2024 is the year of climate dialogue for Ukraine.
“The whole world is now saying that climate policy is one of the priorities for human development. We have caused a lot of damage to the planet and are already seeing the irreparable consequences of our activities. Today, we face two challenges: reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change,” said Viktoriia Kyreieva, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, at the II Forum on Ecology and Sustainable Development.
Ukraine is moving fast in implementing its climate policy. A draft Law of Ukraine “On the basic principles of the state climate policy” has been developed and has already been publicly discussed. The framework draft law defines the architecture of climate governance, creates conditions for Ukraine’s low-carbon development and achievement of climate neutrality.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources is currently actively working on financial instruments for climate policy, such as the development of an emissions trading system.
