Winter support of UAH 6,500 has been financed for 117,000 people: Tetiana Kiriienko

On the orders of the President, the Government has prepared a package of assistance programs for Ukrainians this winter, titled Winter Support. The package includes several programs from the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity: a payment of UAH 6,500 for the most vulnerable social groups, a “winter thousand,” payments for the purchase of solid fuel for internally displaced persons and residents of frontline territories, as well as additional funds to pay for electricity.

Payments and accruals under all these programs are currently underway. This was announced during a briefing at the Ukraine Media Center by Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity Tetiana Kiriienko.

"As of December 9, more than 340,000 people have already applied for a one-time payment of UAH 6,500. The state has already financed assistance for 117,199 people. These funds are earmarked for the purchase of warm clothing and footwear, medicines, and vitamins. This can be done within 180 days, i.e., six months. Applications will be accepted until December 17," she said.

According to the Deputy Minister, Ukrainians have submitted more than 15.8 million applications for the “winter thousand.” This is already 1.8 million more applicants than last year. However, the state plans to pay off all applications for this support if they meet the requirements. More than 15.5 million citizens have already received a thousand in support. Most often, people spend the money on utilities, pharmacies, books, and donations to charity.

No less important support during the winter period is provided by assistance programs for frontline regions. Residents of these regions receive additional funds to pay for electricity.

“Currently, more than 309,000 recipients have already received additional payments totaling UAH 202.6 million,” said Tetiana Kiriienko.

Residents of settlements in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Chernihiv regions receive assistance.
