This week, applications for the next support programme for farmers have been launched. This is to help those who develop irrigation systems. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at a Government session on 16 August.

“The state budget has allocated UAH 200 million to support land reclamation and the restoration of reclamation systems. If a farmer invests his own funds, the state will support him by covering up to 50% of the costs of reconstruction or construction of new irrigation systems,” the Prime Minister said.

According to him, in practice, this allows to increase the area of irrigated land, improve the energy efficiency of the systems, increase the yield and productivity of the agricultural sector.

The Government has also adopted a resolution to actually launch another support programme – a mechanism for providing special subsidies for farmers working in the frontline regions.

“The state will pay UAH 1,000 per hectare of land if a farmer works in the area of possible warfare, and UAH 2,000 per hectare if it is a combat zone. We understand how difficult it is to sow and harvest on these lands and in these communities, so we will support our people who work there,” said Denys Shmyhal.

According to the Prime Minister, Ukraine is completing the third harvest during the full-scale war. A total of 28.5 million tonnes of grain has been harvested: 21.7 million tonnes of wheat and 5.5 million tonnes of barley.

“This result is the hard work of tens of thousands of people and effective government programmes to help our farmers,” said Denys Shmyhal.
