On 9 May in Lviv, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
A key topic of discussion was the development of bilateral strategic partnership, formalised by a historic agreement signed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The parties also addressed the situation at the frontline.
“Despite loud claims, russia observes no ceasefire. The enemy conducts assaults and shells peaceful cities,” Denys Shmyhal stressed.
He noted that Ukraine urges international partners to intensify efforts to increase pressure on russia to enforce a 30-day ceasefire, with sanctions being a key tool, according to the Prime Minister.
During the meeting, Denys Shmyhal thanked the UK for announcing its largest sanctions package targeting russia’s shadow fleet.
The Head of Ukrainian Government highlighted the importance of the ERA initiative, which channels funds from russian asset revenues to support Ukraine and its Armed Forces, and expressed gratitude for the UK’s participation.
“The United Kingdom remains our steadfast ally. We thank the British Government and people for their unwavering support,” the Prime Minister emphasised.
