Denys Shmyhal and Andres Sutt discussed specific measures to prepare Ukraine’s power grid for winter

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with Andres Sutt, Minister of Energy and the Environment of Estonia. The parties discussed specific measures to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience ahead of the coming winter, as well as areas for strategic technological partnership.

“Estonia has already contributed EUR 2.6m to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. This is a significant contribution to the stability of our system. We are grateful for this support,” emphasized Denys Shmyhal.

As the head of the Ministry of Energy noted, as part of preparations for the upcoming autumn-winter period, the transfer of decommissioned and reserve equipment from Estonian thermal power plants through accelerated mechanisms is critically important. We are working through these opportunities.

In addition, Estonian companies manufacture equipment essential for the recovery and modernization of Ukraine’s energy sector. Denys Shmyhal noted that direct contacts between enterprises should become a systematic practice.

Estonia also has proven solutions that Ukraine needs — particularly in cybersecurity for energy infrastructure and the development of energy storage technologies..

“I thank Estonia for its unwavering support for Ukraine. I am also grateful to Minister Andres Sutt for visiting Ukraine during the days marking the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster. We value this solidarity and look forward to continued partnership,” emphasized Denys Shmyhal.
