Denys Shmyhal introduces new Naftogaz head and outlines key tasks for the company
Today, 14 May, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal presented Sergii Koretskyi as the new head of Naftogaz to the company’s team. The Head of Government acknowledged Naftogaz’s contribution to the country’s gas supply and thanked the team for their work amid the war.
In introducing the new head, Denys Shmyhal also outlined the general priorities for Ukraine’s energy security and a series of specific, critical tasks for the company in the near term.
“The first task is preparing for the next heating season. Light and heat must be available in every Ukrainian home. The second is accumulating sufficient reserves of ‘blue fuel’ in gas storage facilities for the autumn-winter period. The third is the rapid and high-quality restoration of gas industry infrastructure damaged by russia,” the Prime Minister stressed.
Additionally, according to Denys Shmyhal, Naftogaz’s tasks include increasing Ukrainian gas production to maximally cover domestic needs and further developing distributed generation. This, in particular, will minimise losses from russian attacks and add new capacity to Ukraine’s energy sector.
“The activities of Naftogaz are crucial for Ukraine’s resilience. We count on even more productive work for the sake of people’s safety and well-being,” the Head of Government emphasised.
