The Government is updating its customs reform strategy, which will include further integration with the EU, joint control on the western border, comprehensive construction of border infrastructure, digitalization, and the fight against corruption.

This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a meeting on customs reform.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Finance Sergii Marchenko, Acting Head of the State Customs Service Sergii Zvyahintsev, and representatives of the Reforms Delivery Office.

According to Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine is already implementing the options of customs visa-free regime with the EU under the common transit system (NCTS) and has been praised by the European Commission for fulfilling the requirements in the customs sphere.

“Further customs reform involves a number of practical steps. It is the installation of scanners. It is a joint control by Ukrainian and EU customs officers. To do this, we need to harmonize our legislation with the European one. One of the priority areas of reform is the digitalization of customs. We are talking about data exchange, an electronic queue that would streamline border crossing, and electronic customs clearance in Diia,” the Prime Minister said.

Denys Shmyhal emphasized that the modernization of border infrastructure would be a particular area of focus.

The Head of Government instructed to set up a working group to update the customs reform strategy.
