Ukraine continues negotiations on joint customs and border control on its border with the EU. The first results are expected as early as this year, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said at a Government meeting on 14 January.
“The European Commission is currently assessing our potential agreement with Poland. After agreeing on the technical issues, we will be able to use this proven model for our other EU neighbours,” said Denys Shmyhal.
The Prime Minister noted that this year Ukraine would further expand and improve the eCherha system. For more than two years, the system has registered nearly 1.6 million border crossings.
“Every day, thousands of trucks and buses use the system, which reduces the time they spend at the border,” the Head of Government stressed.
Also, according to the Prime Minister, further modernisation of border crossing points is planned. In particular, last year, the Strategy for the Development of Border Infrastructure with the EU and Moldova until 2030 was approved, which provides for the reconstruction of 28 checkpoints and the construction of at least six new ones.
“Our goal is to make border crossing for citizens and businesses as quick and convenient as possible,” said Denys Shmyhal.
