The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal discussed Ukraine’s integration into the EU and NATO with members of the Saeima led by Speaker Daiga Mieriņa. The meeting took place on 4 April as part of the government team’s visit to Latvia.
Denys Shmyhal thanked Latvia for its support in Ukraine’s integration and stressed that it was very important for Ukraine to start negotiations on joining the EU by the end of June this year.
The parties also discussed the establishment of joint ventures.
“We highly appreciate Latvia’s initiative to launch grant programmes for joint ventures. This will bring our cooperation to a new level,” the Head of Ukrainian Government said.
The participants of the meeting paid special attention to russia’s continuous shelling of Ukrainian territories, in particular the recent attacks on Kharkiv.
“We need to stand together against russian terrorism and we are grateful to Latvia for its reliable support in this matter,” said Denys Shmyhal.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine and representatives of the Latvian Saeima also discussed the importance of the ban on imports of agricultural products from russia to the EU.
