Denys Shmyhal discusses attracting additional funding for the restoration of Ukrainian energy infrastructure with U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, as part of his working visit to the United States, held a meeting with U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright. They discussed the situation in the Ukrainian energy system, which has suffered damage as a result of russian attacks, and the priorities for its restoration.

In particular, the meeting addressed the attraction of USD 1.4 billion in credit assistance from the DFC for the modernisation of energy equipment, primarily for gas production, as well as strengthening cooperation with the U.S. EXIM Bank.

Separate attention was paid to increasing gas and oil production in Ukraine with the involvement of American companies. The parties discussed the development of the Vertical Gas Corridor, the advantages of using Ukrainian gas storage facilities, and the development of the Odesa terminal for transporting oil to Europe.

Denys Shmyhal also reported on negotiations with U.S. companies regarding alternative sources of diesel supply. He stressed that Ukraine is counting on support in this matter from the U.S. administration.

The Head of the Ministry of Energy thanked the United States for its consistent support of Ukraine:

“We appreciate the recent decision to allocate an additional USD 276 million to support Ukrainian energy. This is the kind of assistance that allows us not only to hold out, but also to build a new system of energy security,” he emphasised.
