Denys Shmyhal discusses military support for Ukraine with defence ministers of Latvia and Spain

Minister of Defence of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held discussions with Latvia’s Defence Minister Andris Sprūds and Spain’s Defence Minister Margarita Robles.

“We are strengthening military support for Ukraine from our European partners. With Latvia’s Defence Minister Andris Sprūds, we discussed the needs of the Defence Forces, joint drone production for Ukraine, and agreements from the latest meeting of the Contact Group on Defence,” said the Head of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence.

Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude for Latvia’s contribution to bolstering Ukraine’s defence capabilities, particularly for providing UAVs to the Defence Forces and the recent decision to supply 42 Patria 6x6 armoured personnel carriers.

“The first batch has already been delivered to Ukraine. We agreed on the next steps for cooperation, including intensifying our dialogue with the Nordic-Baltic Eight countries,” noted Ukraine’s Defence Minister.

In his conversation with Spain’s Defence Minister Margarita Robles, Denys Shmyhal discussed ways to enhance Ukraine’s defence capabilities on land, at sea, and in the air. According to him, relevant agreements are being prepared.

Denys Shmyhal thanked Spain for its significant contribution to supporting Ukraine, particularly in protecting the skies from russian attacks.

“We are also grateful for the training and treatment of Ukrainian military personnel. We will continue our fruitful cooperation for the sake of security and peace,” concluded Denys Shmyhal.
