During a working trip to Brussels on September 5, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and heads of political groups.
The Prime Minister thanked the European Parliament for the resolve and leadership in the assistance provided to Ukraine.
"The Ukrainian people appreciate the European Parliament's solidarity with Ukraine and measures to support our state. We are well aware that Ukraine and Ukrainians are in the focus of attention of the European Parliament," said Denys Shmyhal.
With regards to the first plenary session of the European Parliament in the new season, which will take place next week, the Head of the Ukrainian Government expressed his confidence that the European Parliament and other institutions would once again emphasize their unwavering support for Ukraine and would determine victory in the war shamefully unleashed by Russia an unconditional priority.
"We highly value the support of the European Parliament in matters of sanctions against russia. The adopted resolutions demonstrate an understanding of the need to increase pressure on the aggressor as soon as possible and exercise control over the implementation of sanctions," the Prime Minister said.
Moreover, Denys Shmyhal noted that following granting Ukraine a candidate status, the key priority was the transition to the membership negotiation process.
"We count on the support of the European Parliament and your personal support in this matter. We believe that this process will be accompanied by a new quality of dialogue with the European Parliament, which plays an important monitoring role in the process of relevant negotiations with candidate countries," the Prime Minister of Ukraine noted.
The parties also discussed military assistance, financial and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
