The development of the stock market infrastructure, strengthening the banking sector and the implementation of energy efficiency projects were discussed by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal with the Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Alain Pilloux and the Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for Policy and Partnership Mark Bowman.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed that overcoming of the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic is one of the priority tasks for the State and requires a constant response to the needs of businesses, promoting the resumption of their economic activity.
"We are interested in investing and strengthening the banking sector. Today we see and understand the business demand for affordable and high-quality credit financial resources. The Government will pay special attention to this issue," said Denys Shmyhal.
Moreover, the Prime Minister noted the importance of creating an efficient stock market infrastructure in Ukraine. He thanked the EBRD for its support in launching this project.
"Now we have a roadmap for the development of the capital market in Ukraine. And day after day we are consistent in our actions in this direction. We expect to create an appropriate quality infrastructure over the next two years," the Head of the Ukrainian Government stressed.
The parties also tackled the continuation of cooperation in the field of infrastructure using the concession mechanism. The Prime Minister noted that the first project of a concession highway was being prepared for implementation in Ukraine. In addition, there are plans to build six more such highways.
Apart from that, Denys Shmyhal stressed that Ukraine will strengthen energy efficiency next year at the initiative of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"In synergy with partners in Ukraine, an energy efficiency fund has been created, which operates with associations of apartment buildings. This year it has fully launched, we have the first contracts, the first executed agreements on house insulation. We intend to intensify this work and are currently working on a program of cooperation with municipalities," said the Prime Minister.
Representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development during the meeting noted Ukraine's progress in implementing judicial reform, fighting corruption and strengthening the independence of the NBU. The EBRD emphasized that the Bank planned to continue investing in Ukraine, continue cooperation on existing projects and join the implementation of new areas of cooperation.
