Ministry of Digital Transformation: Four сompanies to invest over USD 100 mn in Ukrainian defense technologies
Through September 16-17, Brave1 and the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine held Defense Tech Valley 2025 in Lviv - an event that brought together over 5,000 people from more than 50 countries worldwide. Four companies from Europe and the USA announced plans to invest over USD 100 million in Ukrainian defense tech and disclosed the first closed funding rounds. Separately, the Ukrainian company Swarmer announced the largest public investment deal in the history of Ukrainian defense tech, securing USD 15 million from American investors.
"Ukraine is shaping the modern doctrine of warfare, with technologies playing a decisive role. Our message to international investors and companies is simple — if you're not in Ukraine, you're not on the defense technology market. Since 2024, thanks to Brave1's efforts, Ukrainian defense companies have attracted USD 90 million in investments, with the average deal size growing from USD 300,000 to USD 1 million. At Defense Tech Valley 2025, we are reaching a new level — four investment funds have announced plans to invest over USD 100 million in Ukrainian defense tech, with the first closed rounds already underway," said First Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov.
Details of Investment Agreements:
- NUNC Capital (Netherlands) announced plans to invest EUR 20 million to create and scale promising defense companies in Ukraine. The company focuses on cutting-edge NATO defense technology that can deliver immediate results, including advanced materials, electronic warfare systems, and smart production.
- The German-Luxembourg venture fund Verne Capital, specializing in European defense, security, and cybersecurity companies, announced its intention to invest up to EUR 25 million in Ukrainian defense innovations.
- The Swedish investment group Varangians announced a large-scale investment plan in Ukraine and has already closed its first deal, with details to be disclosed soon.
- Oedipus Inc. announced its establishment as Europe’s first permanent capital fund focused exclusively on defense technologies. The founding team has extensive experience investing in autonomous technologies developed in Ukraine. The team is expected to soon announce ambitious plans for collaboration in the Ukrainian defense sector.
- Ukrainian startup Swarmer, a company developing drone swarm technologies, announced it raised USD 15 million in a Series A round from American investment funds led by Broadband Capital Investments.
“The time has come for Europe not only to support Ukraine but also to learn from Ukraine. The question before us is not just how to create a specific technology; it’s about how to build an entire ecosystem of defense innovations. That’s why our task now is to integrate Ukraine’s defense industry into the European one, to support and learn from each other to strengthen the security of not only Ukraine but the entire European continent,” said Andrius Kubilius, EU Commissioner for Defense and Space.
The EU Commissioner noted that the recent incursion of russian drones into Polish airspace served as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of Europe’s defense capabilities against modern threats like drones. Therefore, European companies should adopt Ukraine’s advanced experience in air defense.
In total, the event was attended by over 300 investors from Europe and North America, twice as many as at Brave1’s previous major event in February 2025, the Defense Tech Innovation Forum.
