A few years ago, the Government introduced an initiative to support the development of Ukrainian cinema production. Due to this initiative, more and more high-quality films are being produced in Ukraine. Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said during a visit to the filming location of the historical fantasy Taras Shevchenko: The First Samurai. The film contains elements of fantasy and western. This is an unusual view of the figure of Taras Shevchenko, who, besides being a good writer, masters oriental martial arts.
The total budget of the film is UAH 24.5 million, of which the sum worth UAH 19.6 million was allocated by the Government.
"In Ukraine, the whole industry of film production is developing. There is emerging a large coterie of talented actors, producers, film editors, scriptwriters. We are paving the way of the creation of quality competitive conditions. There have already been produced 76 Ukrainian films, 72 are at the production stage. The main thing is that Ukrainians are beginning to go to the cinema to watch Ukrainian films, which demonstrates high quality", said Volodymyr Groysman.
He noted that the Government had prepared propositions for the improvement of Ukrainian laws to enhance support for the film industry.
"We will exert every effort to ensure those laws approval. Then not only Ukrainian producers but also well-known world companies will shoot cinema in our country. The main thing is that we know how to do that", the Head of Government stressed.
