The Government will not spontaneously close the mines but will work towards the development of coal regions. Prime Minister Denys Schmyhal announced during the talk show Savik Schuster’s Freedom of Speech.

The Prime Minister said that for several weeks now, the Government has been working with the World Bank to develop a program of equitable transformation of coal regions. According to him, it is a long-term program, which stipulates that even the natural mine closure will involve planning the future of this territory.

Also, Denys Shmyhal announced the partial liquidation of a debt to miners, as was promised by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the All-Ukrainian Miners' Meeting.

“We agreed and the President promised at the All-Ukrainian Miners' Meeting to pay off half of the debts in March. Indeed, yesterday - the day before yesterday debts in the amount of 654 million were transferred to the accounts, including Pershotravneva mine administration. This is the first step,” said Denys Schmyhal.

The PM added that the Government would not close the mines until the state found alternative employment for the people.
