Ukraine is grateful to the United States for its comprehensive support both in the fight against Russian aggression and on the path to systemic transformations in the country. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman issued this statement in the course of the meeting with John J. Sullivan, the Deputy Secretary of State of the United States.
The Head of Government briefed the interlocutor on ongoing reforms, in particular in education, health care, pension systems, and also outlined the priorities of the Government's activities in 2018, inter alia ensuring economic growth, continuing cooperation with the International Monetary Fund and strengthening the fight against corruption. Particular attention was paid to the issues of state property management, as well as transparent privatization. The sides positively noted the interaction on strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights in Ukraine, in particular the preparation of a government bill on the effective management of author's right.
The US Deputy Secretary of State commended the Government’s efforts and endeavors in carrying out reforms that are successful despite Russia's aggression.
While touching upon the issue of attracting investments in Ukraine, the parties positively noted the agreement on cooperation between the state company Ukrzaliznytsia and American corporation General Electric, which resulted in signing the corresponding agreement on February 23. The focus of the talks was also placed on cooperation in the energy sector, in particular concerning energy sector reform, the unbundling of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine that will enable to overcome corruption in this sector. The U.S. side positively noted the recent creation of Naftogaz of Ukraine Supervisory Board and assured of support for the development of transit potential of Ukraine.
The topical issue concerning the creation of an independent Specialized Anti-Corruption Court in Ukraine. was touched upon during the talks, "I think the anti-corruption court is on the agenda . This legal instrument will ensure the success of our reforms and will increase the confidence of foreign investors in Ukraine," Volodymyr Groysman underscored.
