Minister of Foreign
Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin
participated in the ministerial meeting of Global
coalition to defeat ISIS, which was held on
February 13, 2018 in Kuwait, and co-chaired by Deputy
Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign
Affairs of the State of
Kuwait Shaikh Sabah Al-Khaled As-Sabah and US Secretary of State
Rex Tillerson.
About 80 countries and
international organizations
which are the partners in
the Global coalition to defeat
ISIS participated in the event being
represented mostly at the ministerial
level.
During the session
which is the first Coalition
meeting since the liberation of about 98% of
the territories of Syria and
Iraq from the control of
ISIS, the Ministers discussed the ways
the Coalition can help to
protect against a resurgence of ISIS in Iraq and
Syria and promote stabilization, reintegration and rehabilitation.
The participants adopted
during the meeting the Guiding
Principles of consistent Coalition commitment to defeat
ISIS as the most dangerous example of international
terrorism.
As ISIS continues to adapt its
global network, the Coalition expressed
its commitment to leverage its
global reach by employing its
expertise in and through existing
national, multilateral and regional counterterrorism
structures.
In his speech
during the session dedicated to the issue
of neutralizing networks and branches
of global ISIS, the Minister for
Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo
Klimkin emphasized that Ukraine, being
a member of the Coalition, fully shares its
values principles as well as
strategic goals to defeat ISIS in all its
forms and manifestations. Ukraine will continue to
contribute into the fighting against
ISIS in particular through its participation
in the Working
group on foreign terrorist fighters (FTF).
At the margins
of the conference
Pavlo Klimkin held pull-aside meetings with the
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Australia J. Bishop and the
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey M.Cavuchoglu.
The ministerial meeting
of Global coalition to defeat
ISIS was held simultaneously with the Kuwait International
Conference for the reconstruction of Iraq which
is held in
Kuwait during February 12-14, 2018 and co-chaired by the
Governments of Kuwait and Iraq,
UN, EU and the World Bank.
