The prospects for the implementation of renewable energy projects in Ukraine were discussed by Head of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine Serhii Savchuk during a meeting with Luigi Barberis, Director General of Eni Ukraine. This is a representative office of a large Italian energy company Eni S.p.A that, in addition to its main activities in traditional energy sector, is on track to develop clean energy projects and technologies.
The company has shown interest in installing wind power plants in Ukraine. According to Luigi Barbieris, this may be a project of 40 MW capacity planned to be implemented in some stages in the southern or western regions of Ukraine. The company has a balanced approach to such a project and analyzes all the necessary components: access to the network, sources of funding, evaluation of wind energy potential, etc.
Meanwhile, Eni S.p.A, which has launched cooperation with the General Electric Corporation, has the opportunity to use the best wind energy technologies.
Serhii Savchuk outlined recent legislative changes that contribute to the implementation of wind energy projects. This is an advantageous "green" tariff pegged to the euro, a surcharge to the tariff while using domestic equipment and the possibility of concluding long-term contracts for the purchase of "clean" electric power.
"Presently, wind energy in Ukraine is the second in terms of pace of development after solar energy. There is a number of strong players at the market. At the same time, we appreciate the opportunity to bring Italy's experience, innovations, technologies and investments into domestic wind energy, which will promote its development," stressed S. Savchuk.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed that the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine will share potential wind energy projects in Ukraine with the Italian company and the current legislation in effect in this area.
