In the course
of the meeting
between Yulia Pidkomorna, Acting State Secretary of the Ministry
of Energy and Coal Industry
of Ukraine, and representatives
of the Defense
Threat Reduction Agency issues pertaining
to energy security were touched
upon.
The attendees discussed
the issues of developing functional
requirements for software, designing and re-equipping the dispatch room
and creating the Interagency Operational Headquarters (IOS) of the Ministry
of Energy and Coal Industry
of Ukraine, which should function
as a center for information gathering and coordination
of measures to manage, counteract,
prevent and respond to possible
threats to energy infrastructure.
"The existence
of such situational
centers is of paramount importance
for strengthening energy security, which is a critical
part of Ukraine's
national security," the Acting State
Secretary underscored. She also thanked
the U.S. side for the assistance
called to strengthen and expand Ukraine's ability to respond
to nuclear incidents related to the physical
security of nuclear materials.
The participants of
the meeting presented the results of
the work on the establishment
of the Interagency
Operational Headquarters.
