Minister of
Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan held a bilateral meeting with the Secretary-General
of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Mr. Kitack Lim, within the framework of a working
visit to London. During
the meeting the parties considered the preparation of Ukraine for the IMO
audit, scheduled for June 2018.
Volodymyr
Omelyan expressed his gratitude to the IMO
Secretary-General for technical assistance in the process of gearing up for the
IMO audit, which has been provided to our country from 2015.
The two
parties also tackled the ways to intensify Ukraine's participation in the
activity of this international organization and strategic priorities of development
of Ukraine as a naval state. The
International Maritime Organization (IMO) is the United Nations specialized
agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the
prevention of marine pollution by ships. Ukraine joined the IMO in 1994.
