The Government of
Ukraine actively introduces mechanisms for securing and
protecting of women's rights, starting from professional
activities to participation in public decision-making, and all transformations being introduced take into account
the gender aspect. The Prime
Minister issued the said statement during
the 1st Ukrainian
Women's Congress. The event,
organized with the support of
the Inter-faction deputy union “Equal
Opportunities”, gathered together 300 most active and successful
women and men from different
spheres,
including politics, business, NGOs
and the media
in order to unite them
around the idea of ensuring
gender equality as a basic element
of sustainable development of our country in
various sectors of Ukrainian society.
The Head of
Government stressed that the utmost
should be done in order
to change the consciousness of citizens towards
gender issues. "We already have
embarked on this way - from
amending the legislation to the development of tools that
will allow women to participate
in decision-making. We have started to
move forward on many issues,"
he emphasized.
The Prime Minister
recalled that a special Gender Equality Office under the Cabinet of
Ministers will shortly start its
work.
He thanked the
organizers of the congress for
the beginning of a good tradition
- a meeting with a wide range of
actors where burning issues pertaining to the
development of the state and
the society can be discussed.
