Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources: French company reaffirmed the willingness to work on the Ukrainian renewable energy market
French energy giant
ENGIE pledges interest in investing in
the construction of a solar power
plant on the territory of
the exclusion zone. This was
stated by Minister of Ecology
and Natural Resources Ostap Semerak. He reiterated
that the French company had appealed to
the Ukrainian government after it announced its
intention to develop renewable energy sources in the Chernobyl
zone.
«Ukrainian and
French specialists are already conducting
work on preparation
of a feasibility study for the
project, which should be completed
by the end
of the year.
The visit of representatives of ENGIE Group to Kyiv confirmed
that the negotiations are successful and supported by the Ukrainian Government», said Ostap Semerak
and added that ENGIE together with the French
government allocated funds for the
first feasibility study to explore
development opportunities of renewable energy
in the exclusion
zone.
Moreover, the Minister
is convinced that the effective
implementation of renewable energy projects in the
exclusion zone has an important
socio-economic component to overcome the
consequences of the Chernobyl disaster.
