Opening
information in line with the EITI requirements opens up opportunity for the companies
to enter the Ukrainian market. This was stated by Minister of Energy and Coal
Industry Ihor Nasalyk
during a meeting with Head of the EITI (Extractive Industries
Transparency Initiative) International
Secretariat Jonas Moberg. The Minister, in
particular, noted that the data disclosed during the preparation of the EITI
Report become an integral part so that all companies would receive the full
range of information about the possibilities in our country.
"There is a
great interest of our country in the implementation of the Extractive
Industries Transparency Initiative.
We have a good tool for improving the transparency of the extractive
industries," the Minister of Energy and the Coal Industry said. He also
noted the fruitful work performed by the EITI Secretariat in Ukraine, the
public, inter alia the DiXi Group.
According to the
Minister, to ensure the implementation of reforms in the energy sector mutual
understanding and cooperation with the line committee of the Verkhovna Rada of
Ukraine and communication with all stakeholders in the regions are viewed as
crucial.
Ihor Nasalyk briefed on steps taken by the country in the
direction of energy security. In particular, he stressed that Ukraine has
adopted a conceptual decision to increase its domestic extraction and abandoning
gas imports. According to the Minister, Ukraine has the potential not just to fully satisfy the demands of the country with natural
gas, but to import gas as well. Therefore, the introduction of EITI, the disclosure
of information pertaining to gas extraction will facilitate the increase of
investments and the development of gas production in Ukraine.
Head of the International Secretariat Jonas Moberg commended the constructive work fulfilled in cooperation with the authorities, companies and the civil society to open up information in the mining industry. He emphasized that collaboration with legislative authority discloses a great potential for the implementation of the EITI instrument. Jonas Moberg also offered to consider possibilities and to continue using the EITI in implementing reforms.
