Ukraine and
Moldova express readiness to intensify the political dialogue in the context of
maintaining the sovereignty of both countries, and welcome tighter cooperation
in the economy and the development of cross-border partnership. This was stated
by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during a meeting with Prime
Minister of the Republic of Moldova Pavel Filip.
The meeting took place in Odessa.
During the talks,
the Head of Ukraine’s Government stressed that Kyiv is interested in political
stability in Moldova, shares and supports the principles of territorial
integrity of the neighboring state, and also considers it necessary and timely
to include an issue of the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria into the agenda of the work of the United
Nations General Assembly. It will start work in mid-September.
"We also look forward to supporting our initiative on the introduction of the UN peacekeeping contingent in Donbas", said Volodymyr Groysman.
Apart from that,
the parties tackled the state of implementation of the roadmap approved by the
prime ministers in the beginning of the year, and noted the significant
progress in this regard. Thus, trade turnover between the countries for the
first half-year has grown by one third – up to $ 317 million. An active work on
the development of the border infrastructure is underway. A joint control has
been introduced at the Kuchurgan checkpoint, soon the
Bronnitsy - Unguri bridge will open. The plans include the construction of a
new bridge across the Dnipro Yampil
- Soroka and the restoring of the railway communication
between Berezino - Basarabeasca.
By the end of the year, the Head of Government of Ukraine emphasized, Kyiv expects
for the completion of the demarcation procedure on the Ukrainian-Moldovan
border.
"There are still a number of not fully resolved issues of bilateral cooperation. Therefore, we are committed for further constructive dialogue", said Volodymyr Groysman, and offered to coordinate the mechanism for settlement of the issue at the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Moldovan Commission, which it was decided to hold in late September.
