The Cabinet
of Ministers approved the Energy Strategy of Ukraine "Safety, Energy
Efficiency, Competitiveness” until 2035 announced Vice Prime Minister of
Ukraine Volodymyr Kistion.
According to
him, this policy document encapsulates a whole range of far-reaching reforms in
the energy sector.
The
essential task of the energy strategy is to reduce energy consumption of
Ukraine's economy by half until 2030 and to boost the Ukrainian production of
both traditional and alternative energy sources», stressed Volodymyr
Kistion.
The said
document stipulates for the new structure of energy needs, thus nuclear power
will provide 50% of the country's electricity by 2035, renewable sources - 25%,
hydropower - 13% and the rest will be covered by thermal electric power
stations.
Energy
Strategy has been drafted in different versions for two years. The most
respected scientific centers of the country, including the National Institute
for Strategic Studies, international and domestic experts, and public
organizations were engaged in the work. This is a bridging document that
defines the goals of Ukraine until 2035 and ways to achieve it.
«The
foundations for the sustainable energy future of our country are laid. The
energy strategy only envisages goals, the implementation of which should be
reflected in a step-by-step approach. Given the above, there is still much work
to do», underscored the Vice Prime Minister.
