July 24-25, Minister of Finance of Ukraine Olexandr
Danyliuk will pay a working visit to the Italian
Republic. In the framework of the visit he is scheduled to meet Minister of
Economy and Finance of Italy Pier Carlo Padoan,
General Commander of the Financial Guard of Italy Giorgio Toschi,
Head of the Italian Revenue Agency Rossella Orlandi and Director General of the Customs and Monopolies
Agency of Italy Giuseppe Peleggi.
During the visit the Minister will familiarize with the aspects of the
work of the Financial Guard of Italy (Guardia di Finanza),
which is an Italian law enforcement agency under the authority of the Minister
of Economy and Finance and is essentially responsible for dealing with
financial crime and smuggling.
The issues pertaining to the functioning of the Italian tax system and
the customs will be also touched upon.
The visit was scheduled due to the launch of activities on the
establishment of Financial Investigations Service that is a similar body aimed
to investigate economic crimes against the state under the authority of the
Ministry of Finance of Ukraine.
The establishment of the said Service is being supported by the
President of Ukraine, the Prime Minister of Ukraine and provided for by the
Coalition Agreement and the Action Plan of the Government. The initiative is
also a commitment under the Memorandum of Cooperation with the International
Monetary Fund as well as is supported by foreign partners, experts and business
associations.
