Ukraine urges Japan to join the implementation of domestic infrastructure projects and programs for energy facilities modernization, says Prime Minister at a meeting with Ambassador of Japan

Ukraine calls on the Government of Japan to enhance cooperation in the economy and encourages Tokyo to participate in large domestic infrastructure projects, Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman appealed to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi during a meeting at the Government’s House.

The Head of Government thanked for the comprehensive political support for Ukraine, inter alia in Ukraine’s fight for territorial integrity, for the participation of Japan in projects aimed at overcoming the consequences of Russian aggression and providing financial assistance for reforms, as well as for the interest demonstrated by Japanese businesses to our country. In light of this, as an example of positive cooperation, it was noted that the delegations of the KEIDANREN Japan Business Federation and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in May-June of the current year had visited Kyiv and held talks with Ukrainian partners. According to Volodymyr Groysman, this will undoubtedly facilitate the development of investment cooperation between the two countries and will encourage trade relations, all the more so since the commodity turnover between the states has grown by over 40% since the beginning of the year.

"We are grateful for the programs that you carry out in Ukraine, especially given that this year is declared The Year of Japan in Ukraine. We can enumerate programs that we implement together, so I would like to express my gratitude for the consistent support of Ukraine", the Head of Ukrainian Government emphasized. “We highly value our bilateral cooperation in various spheres and implementation of various projects important for Ukraine."

Volodymyr Groysman informed that tomorrow, July 19, at its meeting the Cabinet of Ministers will approve a plan of events to mark the Year of Japan in Ukraine.

In turn, Shigeki Sumi noted that Japan is keen on participating in a number of joint projects - in particular, in the energy and infrastructure sectors, on further work on radiation safety projects and participation in the implementation of the national banks reform strategy. Separately, he reaffirmed support of Japan for systemic reforms, initiated recently by the Ukrainian Government.
