Ukraine confirmed the need to develop full-scale cooperation with Israel
in the agricultural sector – as one of the leading sectors for the Ukrainian
economy and to engage Israeli technologies in the agricultural production. This
was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during a meeting
with Head of the Israeli part of the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and
Economic Cooperation Zeev Elkin. The meeting took
place as part of the Prime Minister’s official visit to Israel.
According to Volodymyr Groysman, the agro sector is of paramount
importance for the two countries as well as the Agreement on free trade area
will provide a significant impetus for deeper cooperation which is now the
subject of negotiations between Israel and Ukraine. In this context, the Prime
Minister called on Israeli side to consider possibilities for liberalization of
access of agricultural products and restoration of Ukrainian exports of table
eggs to the Israel market.
Moreover, Volodymyr Groysman stressed the readiness of official Kyiv to
ensure food security of Israel on a long term basis and to create conditions
for leverage investment flows in the Ukrainian agricultural sector.
“We are interested in Israeli production technologies in agricultural industry.
Our core objective is to replace economy dependent on raw materials and we are
more than willing to support the business", assured the Prime Minister.
The Head of Ukrainian Government emphasized that Israel is one of the
principal trading partners of Ukraine in the region and praised the volume of
the trade turnover between two countries. He is convinced that the work of the
Joint Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation as well as the Government’s
endeavors towards improvement of investment climate, implementation of reforms
and boosting economic ties between Israel and Ukraine on a wide range of issues
will contribute to increase trade turnover indicators.
