Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman calls on Israel to engage in a social dialogue and to jointly explore the historical truth about the tragedy of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine. He said this during a meeting with co-Chairman of the Ukrainian-Israeli Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, Minister of Environmental Protection, Minister of Jerusalem Affairs and Heritage of Israel Zeev Elkin.

According to Volodymyr Groysman, such a step will lay the foundation for the recognition of the Holodomor as the genocide aganist the Ukrainian people by Israel in the future.

"Our request is to enquire into this issue. I consider that the Jewish people will have a lot discoveries about how many dozens thousands of Jews had died at the times of the Holodomor, and therefore will launch a dialogue on the study into this issue. When we study into this topic, a lot of questions in the mind will change and we will have a chance to approach to this issue (recognition by Israel of the Holodomor as the genocide against the Ukrainian people)", said Volodymyr Groysman.

Previously, the issue of recognition of the Holodomor as an act of genocide was discussed during the talks of the Prime Minister of Ukraine with President of Israel Reuven Rivlin and Speaker of the Knesset Yuli Edelstein that were held in the framework of the current official visit of Volodymyr Groysman to the State of Israel.
