Ukraine changes the approach to road management, says Volodymyr Omelyan

“Ukraine changes the approach to road management”, Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, stated during the participation in the Ministerial session on Eastern Partnership, which took place on March 23, 2017 in Sofia (Bulgaria). Volodymyr Omelyan visits Bulgaria on the personal invitation of Violeta Bulc, the EU Commissioner for Transport.

The Minister of infrastructure of Ukraine noted that the complex of measures taken by the Ministry changes the approach to road management, which in turn, should radically change the quality of Ukrainian roads: "The Road Fund, decentralization of Ukravtodor, weight control and independent assessment of the quality of road works FIDIC and CoST – these are the norms, which effectively work in a number of European countries and which have already started working in Ukraine.  Only through the implementation of best European practices it is possible to achieve European quality of roads in Ukraine. But the key issue is the funding."

Volodymyr Omelyan said that Ukraine is open to foreign companies for repair and construction of roads: "We have examples of successful work of foreign companies in Ukraine and we want increase their number".

Also Volodymyr Omelyan named two priority infrastructure projects on the implementation of which the Ministry works: construction and repair of road Krakovets-Lviv-Uman-Odesa (the project that would connect the Baltic and the Black Seas) and electrification of railway track in the direction of Berdychiv-Korosten-Berezhest’ (border crossing point of Ukraine and Belarus).
