Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman met with Vice President of the European Commission for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič in Brussels on Friday.

The main theme of the meeting was coordinating efforts to ensure energy security.

In particular, the parties pondered on possible measures to prevent the use by the Russian Federation of energy as a political weapon, namely with regard to the project "Nord Stream-2".

Volodymyr Groysman stressed that Ukraine hopes for further support and solidarity of the EU in the context of countering the realization by Russia of political projects in the energy sector, in particular the construction of the Nord stream-2 pipeline and pumping into the OPAL gas pipeline of Russian energy carriers.

The Prime Minister also briefed top EU official on the Government efforts to accumulate sufficient amounts of energy to ensure stable passage by Ukraine of the heating season.

"Ukraine is a reliable transit country. The system works and there isn’t a single threat", he stressed.

The parties also discussed the prospects of strengthening gas transit opportunities for Ukraine.
