  • Volodymyr Groysman: We need a high quality education to train a competitive person with relevant background

    On Tuesday Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman chaired a round table to tackle priority directions in education and science, included in section III titled "Human Capital Development" of the draft Medium-Term Plan of Priority Actions of the Government until 2020.

    "An education issue is crucial, from pre-school to Ukrainian science. If we analyze our opportunities at all stages of training, we understand that our potential is extremely high. Proper organization, relevant priorities, financial support will provide us the opportunity to change the situation for the better and to make quite fundamental changes", said Volodymyr Groysman in his address during the meeting.

    "Education, high quality training is viewed as extremely important for the development of the state”, said Volodymyr Groysman.

    Speaking of pre-school education, the Prime Minister stressed the need to ensure absolute availability and reduce queues in kindergartens.

    The Government is also making efforts to create conditions for accelerating positive change in the system of secondary education. In particular, it is crucial to continue the establishment of hub schools, thereby contributing to the improvement of the quality of knowledge, he urged.

    "We need the school that would be efficient and train a competitive person with relevant background", said Volodymyr Groysman.

    The agenda of the Cabinet of Ministers contains the modernization of the curriculum and technologies of vocational education in Ukraine. Volodymyr Groysman noted that students of vocational institutions in Ukraine, after training with use of outdated technologies, often then can't find work due to being unprepared to modern manufacturing process. "This means that our investment in the human capital development of our people proves its inefficiency", he said.

    Apart from that, Volodymyr Groysman accentuated the importance of support for the Ukrainian education and science and its correlation with the needs of the real sector of economy.

    "It is an essential issue of support for Ukrainian education, Ukrainian science. Instead of just maintenance of science, the support for science and the scientists to provide them with opportunities to harmonize with the real sector of economy", he stressed.

    To the conviction of the Prime Minister, to ensure retrofitting of education and science sectors in Ukraine it is vital to fulfill the objectives, such as: to organize the system and provide the funding. This approach would yield end result.

    "We have to do everything to trigger the process of producing quality in the education. This quality will be the basis for future developments of our country", highlighted Volodymyr Groysman.

    The Prime Minister noted that today's meeting was the third meeting in a series of round table discussions dedicated to the priorities of the draft Medium-Term Plan of Priority Actions of the Government until 2020. This debate will provide an opportunity to determine problems, to familiarize with the current state of affairs in education and science in Ukraine and to work out the steps that need to be done to change the situation for the better, he explained.

    The round table gathered experts, representatives of public organizations and the Government members, in particular Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Vyacheslav Kyrylenko, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Lilia Hrynevych and Minister of Finance of Ukraine Oleksandr Danyliuk.
