Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman chaired a meeting to tackle urgent issues of maintenance and development of road infrastructure, as well as the launch and the state of preparation for the large-scale overhaul and construction of roads in 2017.
“Now we need to ensure speedy gearing up for the start of major construction activities including repair, partial repair, overhaul, renovation, construction of new roads”, said Volodymyr Groysman. “As of April 1, we must be completely prepared: tenders, money, purchases – all these must be finalized."
Among the top priority projects in this area in Ukraine is a highway connecting Lviv and Odesa. This decision was made at the meeting chaired by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman dedicated to the issues of maintenance and development of road infrastructure.
Negotiating potential projects, the Prime Minister underlined the priority of speedway Lviv – Ternopil – Khmelnytsky – Vinnytsia – Uman – Odesa that would enhance the transit potential of the country.
"We will take up this highway as one of the core projects. It is definitely much-in-demand", said Volodymyr Groysman.
The Head of Government noted the necessity to complete construction activities along Odesa – Reni route.
Referring to the situation with motor roads in Ukraine, acting Chairman of the State Agency of Automobile Roads of Ukraine Slawomir Nowak said that during 20 years road construction domain had been chronically underfunded. According to him, after the decision of the Prime Minister about the launch of road construction and repair activities, the situation began to change, and in 2016, there were repaired about 950 km of roads. About 17% of the roads are in poor conditions by now.
