The
Government of Ukraine fully supports the creation of public television in
Ukraine. The Government is ready to take all necessary action to eliminate any
threats to the reform of public broadcasting. This was stated by Prime Minister
of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman
during a Government meeting on Wednesday.
"No
one should doubt the need for creation of public television in Ukraine. I express
a common position of the entire Government of Ukraine", - the Prime
Minister said, commenting on the appeal of the journalistic community on the
reform of public broadcasting.
Volodymyr
Groysman stressed that he personally as a former Head
of the Verkhovna Rada of
Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers in the past MPs of Ukraine supported and
support the creation of public television in Ukraine.
"We
were the ones who voted for these laws [on the reform of public broadcasting]
and supported and accompanied them. Now the Government also has absolutely
consolidated position on the development of public television. If there are any
threats to [the creation of public television], we have now to detect them and eliminate
them," Volodymyr Groysman
stressed.
In this
context, the Prime Minister instructed the Minister of information policy of
Ukraine Yurii Stets to work on this issue jointly
with MPs – members of the relevant committees of the Verkhovna
Rada of Ukraine.
