On October 16 Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin began his working visit to Luxembourg with a meeting with Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström.
Pavlo Klimkin thanked the Swedish counterpart for assistance in organizing the meeting of "Ukraine +Group of Friends of Ukraine in the EU" at the level of the EU foreign ministers, scheduled for 17 October.
The sides discussed key issues of Ukraine-EU agenda, including the completion of the ratification of the Association Agreement as well as the acceleration of the implementation of internal procedures by the EU for the abolition of visas for Ukrainian citizens.
M. Wallström stressed the clear and consistent position of Sweden in supporting the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the continuation of political and diplomatic pressure on Russia. The sides noted the need to intensify cooperation within the Eastern Partnership.
Special attention during the conversation was paid to the preparation of the forthcoming visit of the President of Ukraine to Sweden, the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden M. Wallström to Ukraine in November, and also the cooperation between two countries within the UN Security Council in the context of the election of Sweden as non-permanent member for 2017-2019.
