Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman had a meeting with President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio, during which the sides discussed the reform path of Ukraine.

The Head of Government noted that there was being implemented a number of crucial reforms in Ukraine, in particular he focused attention on the reform of power decentralization, the judicial reform. That is, the Parliament adopted changes to the Constitution regarding justice and a number of laws to carry out retrofitting of the judicial system.

"This is the branch of power that must be spotlessly clean, completely open, understandable and must have an impeccable reputation and the trust of society", stressed Volodymyr Groysman.

The Prime Minister also stressed that there had been created effective mechanisms of curbing corruption in Ukraine. "Presently, all the tools - both legislative and institutional – to fight against corruption have been actually formed," said Volodymyr Groysman. The Head of Government added that the reform of judicial system would enable the country to avoid impunity, in particular for corruption.

During the discussion of the decentralization reform, Volodymyr Groysman noted that the process of unification of communities was gaining momentum.

"I think we need to work more efficiently with community leaders, to help them to unite", said the Head of Ukraine’s Government.

Volodymyr Groysman thanked the President of the Venice Commission for the upholding reforms in Ukraine.

In his turn, Gianni Buquicchio commended the transformations in Ukraine and assured of the readiness to further support the country in its reform agenda.

"You will advance further, as all the measures that are taken appear the steps in the right direction," he said.

Gianni Buquicchio, in particular, expressed the commitment of the Venice Commission to provide expert assistance to assess reformatory laws to "ensure them to be good laws in line with European standards." "We exist in order to disseminate and share expertise across Europe", said the President of the Venice Commission.
