The Government will institute a series of measures aimed at combating crime. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman on air of the ICTV channel on Monday evening.

The Head of Government noted that the so-called ‘Savchenko’s law’ had simplified the responsibility of criminals and gave the opportunity to dozens thousands of criminals to be released: "Just look: rape, murder, robbery. The majority of these people have been released under the so-called ‘Savchenko’s law’.

In this regard, the Government will soon submit proposals to abolish the ‘Savchenko’s law’ or to change it. "Second point is: for looting, vehicle robbery, rape we will demand from the Ukrainian Parliament, and the coalition backs it, the most severe punishment", said Volodymyr Groysman.

Apart from that, there has been decided to allot UAH 330 million to raise wages for Criminal Investigation Department employees.

"We will make sure that criminal investigation service effectively combats crime", stressed the Head of Government adding that the vote on this law which will be submitted by the Government will be due on Thursday.

"We must not forget about struggle against gangsterism. Criminals should get punished", he stressed.

He also stressed there is a danger of numerous mitigating circumstances regarding criminal offences in connection with the Russian invasion to the Donbas region through access to weapons and high crime rate. "As the Government we must repel this invasion of villains", urged the Prime Minister.

However, he noted that fighting crime is a shared goal of the Government and Parliament."I know that the Parliament will support and we will start implementing it. If this month they vote in favour [the law], starting October we will declare a serious and uncompromising struggle against crime and criminals", said Volodymyr Groysman.
