Prime
Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman
said that the time of populism in Ukraine is over, and his Government is committed
to continuing reforms in the country, he stated this, speaking during an hour of
questions to the Government at the Parliament on Friday.
"There
is a real attitude, there are true leaders, there are
people who believe in what they say. There are leaders who are fighting for the
country, for its citizens, while there are pseudo-leaders that are just pretending
that they are struggling for Ukraine, for a Ukrainian citizen with a single
goal – to get 1 or 2, or 5 percent more in an election, and then become the
biggest disappointment for the Ukrainian people. The time of populism is over, it is time for responsible social policy. And our Government
is ready to fight for reform, ready to fight for Ukraine and for every citizen,"
emphasized Volodymyr Groysman.
Volodymyr
Groysman has criticized Ukrainian populists who
insist that the Government should stand down from establishing the market-based
gas price for the population. "You know that one leader of one political
party says that the Ukrainian gas costs 20 dollars, which is complete nonsense,"
he said and cited the text of the
memorandum with the IMF, signed by Yulia Tymoshenko as Prime Minister on October 31, 2008.
"I
want to tell you from this rostrum, to this day I have not signed any
memorandum, dear colleagues, any. But here are the signatures, including of Prime
Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko.
Here it is, signed," Volodymyr Groysman showed the document and read the text of paragraph
17 of the Memorandum. "To assure sound finances going forward, and bring Naftogaz’ financial relations with the budget onto a more
orderly basis, we will unify the price of domestic and imported gas by end-2011,"
Volodymyr Groysman ended
the quote and said that it’s what his Government is doing now.
The Prime Minister stressed that the Government would protect Ukraine’s vulnerable groups through non-refundable
