Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman met with representatives of the Government to discuss the issue on the state of repair works on Ukrainian roads on Thursday, June 9.

During the meeting with Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Kistion, Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan, acting Chairman of the State Agency of Automobile Roads of Ukraine Evhenii Barakh and acting Deputy Chairman of the State Agency of Automobile Roads of Ukraine Volodymyr Sushchenko, Volodymyr Groysman set requirements to speed up the repair of Ukrainian roads, to ensure the high quality of works and efficient use of resources.

"The issue of quality, the efficient use of resources, the pace of works is one of the major goals now," said Volodymyr Groysman.

The Prime Minister has emphasized that he is not satisfied with the current pace and quality of work on the roads of the country.

"I would like you to clarify to all contractors that they do not just repair roads, but they also use them," he pointed out.

Moreover, Volodymyr Groysman stressed that the resources allocated for the road construction and maintenance must be used effectively. It should also be ensured control over their use. "I want to say that for this we will punish very severely. Every hryvnia should be spent for certain purpose. It is about the road and its quality," he underlined.

The Government will also monitor how contractors are working with government funds, said Volodymyr Groysman. He also emphasized the usefulness of the electronic system of public procurement ProZorro for the efficient and transparent use of resources.

The Prime Minister recalled that recently the leadership of the State Agency of Automobile Roads of Ukraine was changed. "I want these changes to lead to new quality, new responsibility and accelerate the pace of works. This is a new task we are facing today," said Volodymyr Groysman. He warned about the personal responsibility of the leadership of Ukravtodor for the pace and quality of road repairs.

The Prime Minister instructed to inform him weekly on the progress of works. "Every week I would like to receive a report on what was done, on plans for next week," he said. The Prime Minister will personally visit the places under construction in order to check the progress and quality, he noted.

The Prime Minister reminded that yesterday the Government had allocated more than UAH 5 billion for the restoration of Ukrainian roads across Ukraine at its meeting. Volodymyr Groysman said that a special road fund would be established. The Government will focus on attracting aid from international financial institutions. This will allow us to accumulate enough resources for the construction and development of roads and transport corridors in Ukraine, Volodymyr Groysman pointed out.
