Volodymyr Groysman: Unless we change the Law it is an exaggeration to talk about the elections that would allegedly comply with the choice of people
It is vital to change the electoral system in Ukraine and to switch to
an open list system that will ensure maximum compliance with the will of the
citizens. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman announced on air of "24 channel" on
Wednesday, April 20.
"Unless we change the Law On Election, I
consider it an exaggeration to talk about the ballot that would allegedly comply with the choice
of people",
said Volodymyr Groysman. He
views it an optimal system for Ukraine an open list voting system.
The Prime Minister noted that the debate on this issue is ongoing, as
views of the political forces differ. At the same time Volodymyr
Groysman assured that he would work with MPs of
Ukraine and the parliamentary factions on finding an acceptable model of the
electoral system. "I speak with absolute honesty, I will endeavor to have
such a Law developed, as we need it", said the Head of Government.
"It is important for us to prevent the elections of particular
people as they have been formed in the office of a political party. This is
vital," stressed the Prime Minister.
Apart from that, the Head of the Government highlighted that he would
contribute to maintaining the system of balance among the branches of power in
Ukraine. "Balance and parity of power is always necessary. There should be
responsibility [of all branches]. This is important for our state," said Volodymyr Groysman.
