The negotiations with the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Jacob J. Lew on the conditions of granting Ukraine an additional
loan worth US$ 1 billion is due to be held in Kyiv. Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said at a Government session on Wednesday,
November 11.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk
announced that on November 13, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Jacob J. Lew was scheduled to pay a visit to Ukraine.
The Head
of Government reminded that the United States had
provided Ukraine with a US$ 2
billion loan guarantee.
"The point is that if Ukraine advances with the necessary
reforms for the Ukrainian economy, its social and
humanitarian sector, we will
have a chance to obtain another loan worth
US$ 1 billion", he
stressed.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk informed that talks with the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury and the Minister of Finance of Ukraine would concern the conditions under which the U.S. Government could issue an appropriate loan, “and
the steps that Ukraine should
make to pursue reforms and ensure compliance with principal criteria of our programme
with the International Monetary
Fund".
The Prime Minister
also added that a mission of the International Monetary
Fund arrives to Ukraine: "We
will negotiate with our Western partners regarding social, economic and
financial reforms in the country."
