Arseniy Yatsenyuk met with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini
On Monday, November 9, Prime Minister of
Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk met with High Representative of
the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk
highly evaluated as being intensive and efficient the cooperation between the Government of Ukraine and the
European Commission on a wide range of political, economic, financial, security
and humanitarian issues of the joint agenda. Special attention was
drawn to the preparation of a meeting of the Ukraine-EU Association Council due to be held in Brussels in December which is to be focused on a
detailed discussion of aspects of the current collaboration and future plans.
Noting the ongoing
process of ratification of the Association Agreement
between Ukraine and the EU by
our European
partners, Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed the importance to consolidate
efforts to complete it as soon
as possible.
Moreover, Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasized
the need to strengthen the unity and solidarity of the EU in addressing challenges
that have clear anti-European and anti-Ukrainian nature - from security threats
and political blackmail by Russia to the projects of economic monopoly
and pressure on the EU, such
as Nord stream - 2, an idea of which had caused a negative
response of both the Government of Ukraine and heads of many
European governments: from Slovakia to the Baltic States.
The parties separately discussed measures to support internal
reforms in Ukraine. In particular, they considered an initiative of
establishing a Fund to increase payment to Ukrainian officials and civil
servants, the issue raised in a letter of
Arseniy Yatsenyuk to President of the European Commission
Jean-Claude Juncker. "This is one of the most important ways of overcoming
corruption in public authorities", accentuated the Prime
Minister.
The interlocutors
also addressed an issue of peaceful
settlement in Eastern Ukraine, pressing issues of economic
reforms and legislative support of a European integration
course of our state.
