Arseniy Yatsenyuk: On October 29, Russia has a chance to accept the conditions all the creditors of Ukraine accepted. Otherwise, we are ready to claim for losses

The Russian Federation is the only country that did not participate in the voting of the Creditors' Committee about the cancellation of Ukraine's US$ 3 billion debt. "On October 29 we offer Russia once again to take a decision whether they want to get the terms we proposed to all creditors, or they consider themselves unique. If they believe they are unique - we're ready for legal proceedings with the Russian Federation", announced Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk at the briefing at the Government House on Thursday, October 15.

"If they consider they are normal, then we offer them on 29 October accept the same conditions as all Ukrainian bondholders did, which is a partial reduction and restructuring of debts. There won’t be any other conditions for Russia", urged Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

The Prime Minister reminded that Ukraine had filed a series of lawsuits against Russia. Two basic cases, according to him, in the European Court of Human Rights, "concern annexation of Crimea by Russia and Russian intervention in Donetsk and Luhansk."

He noted that the first lawsuit to the ECHR contains losses worth over UAH 1 trillion: "But due to the fact that the Russian aggression continues, the final figure of losses that we are to demand from the Russian Federation, will appear at a stage of legal proceedings in the European Court of Human Rights".

"1 January of the following year was determined by the Court as the date of providing explanations by the Russian Federation on these disputes. We call on Russia not to delay and not to get to court, as they've done this before asking for the postponement of considering of this case," he said.

Furthermore, a number of commercial arbitration legal actions have been instituted against the Russian Federation: "Now claims are being put in against the Russian Federation by state-owned companies that suffered and lost property as a result of the Russian aggression in Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk."

Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed that the Ukrainian side had filed two lawsuits against Russian Gazprom company - "both under the contract for purchase and sale of natural gas and the contract for transit".

"Therefore, we are ready also to have a legal war with the Russian Federation", declared the Head of Government.

"They have a chance and possibility to accept the proposals (on reduction and restructuring of the Ukrainian debt), thus becoming part of the creditors’ club, who agreed to the Ukrainian proposals, and gradually receive a return of their debt on the terms equal with others. Including those accepted by the creditors regarding reduction of the debt," accentuated Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
