Arseniy Yatsenyuk: Russian army is a threat to the entire world. Ukraine needs defensive weapons
"We do understand
that there is no military solution to this conflict. But this is no
solution without military in this conflict. So
we need to have strong army to deter Russia-led terrorists," Prime
Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk
stated at the 12th Annual Meeting of Yalta European Strategy (YES) on Saturday,
September 12.
Answering the
question on the possibility of providing arms supplies by Western partners to Ukraine,
Arseniy Yatsenyuk said:
"We don’t ask for offensive weapons. We
ask for defensive weapons in order to make Ukrainian army durable."
The Prime
Minister added that Russian jets constantly violated the airspace of NATO allies,
it happened even in the UK: "Russian troops sent their submarines to your
borders. Russia tries to
escalate the political situation in the EU. It
is bribing political forces and media in the EU."
"Russian
army is a threat to the global stability," stressed Arseniy
Yatsenyuk.
The Prime
Minister stressed that the West was facing a number of problems, "The U.S. is making efforts to settle
global problems while the EU is dealing with its internal issues. They have
their own domestic politics too and it is very important for us to be a key
priority for the EU and the U.S.”
“Russia is fighting not only against Ukraine; Ukraine means a battlefield. The Russian president is fighting against the values of the free world. This is our joint fight for rights and freedoms, for the free world and dignity of every person," Arseniy Yatsenyuk underlined.
