Arseniy Yatsenyuk: FTA with Canada is a real opportunity to increase the volume of mutual trade and investments
The
agreement on creation of free trade area between Ukraine and Canada –
"it's not just a chance, it is a real opportunity to increase the volume
of mutual trade and mutual investments," stressed Prime Minister of
Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk
in an interview with journalists after the signing of the document on
completion of negotiations on FTA with Canada in Ottawa on Tuesday, July 14.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed that this is the first document concerning
free trade inked after the Agreement with the European Union on creating FTA:
"Also this is the first agreement with the G7 country."
The Prime
Minister said that under the agreement Canada opens its market for Ukrainian
goods to 98%, Ukraine for Canadian to 70%: "And we have a transitional
period of up to seven years in order to give an opportunity to the Ukrainian
economy to adapt and become competitive."
Arseniy Yatsenyuk added that Canada opens the market for finished
goods from Ukraine, for food products and industrial products: "Russia has
closed the market for industrial products, Canada has opened".
In
addition, according to the PM, Canada will provide Ukraine with technical
assistance, "to make the Ukrainian industry competitive": "It will
give the opportunity not only to enter the Canadian market, but also enter
other markets around the world".
