June 11, Prime Minister of Ukraine and NSDC Secretary inspected the situation at the place of massive blaze in Kyiv region
Prime Minister of
Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr
Turchynov and Chairman of the State Emergency Service
of Ukraine Mykola Chechiotkin inspected the territory
of BRSM fuel depot, which is now controlled by the rescuers, and inspected the process
of fire suppression as of 21 o’clock, June 11.
“I instruct the
Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine to prosecute people who are guilty of
this emergency situation has occurred. First and foremost, these are the director
of the depot and the engineer, as well as those who gave permission for the
construction of the particular fuel depot,” said Prime Minister of Ukraine.
He also assured that
the Government of Ukraine would provide guaranteed financial assistance to the
families of victims.
According to Oleksandr Turchynov, in the process
of liquidation of the blaze at the fuel depot the SES rescuers showed courage
in extinguishing the fire and did everything possible to contain the fire, even
at the cost of their own lives (three firefighters were
killed in an accident).
“The emergency
situation in the Kyiv region has disclosed a number of problem issues. In particular, the vicinity of military bases and petrol depots.
Therefore, the relevant authorities should carry out an inspecting of all
military arsenals regarding safety of the placement,” said Oleksandr
Turchynov.
In turn, Chairman of
the SES Nicholay Chechiotkin
reported that 3 tanks with a capacity of 900 cubic meters were still burning,
the situation was under control. There have been organized 3 operational areas:
constant measurements of air, water underway and the level of pollution is
fixed. Now all the indicators are within norm, negative impact on the
ecological situation is absent.
“The mobile rescue center organized withdrawal of 13 oxygen and 2 gas tanks to
prevent their explosion. We continue to work around the clock,” explained Nicholay Chechiotkin.
