PM: We are not asking for the offensive weapon, we are asking for the defensive weapon. Russia poses the threat to the European security, to NATO member-states and to entire free world
Prime
Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk
states that we are not asking for the offensive weapon, we are asking for the
defensive weapon to defend our country. He said this at the 8th Kyiv Security Forum “No
Security Without Values. The 29th
Story of Freedom” on Thursday, 28 May.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed that unity between the EU and the U.S. is needed to respond jointly to
Russian aggression, “We definitely need for you in the EU to retain unit on
sanctions, including on the issue of sanctions. No doubt that
sanctions have to be rolled over as Russia refuse to implement and
execute the Minsk deal.”
However, he noted, there are a few EU members
that use their veto to prevent from supplying lethal weapons.
According
to Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Russia has spent billions of dollars
in the last decade to modernize its military, to entirely overhaul its army:
“And Russia is constantly supplying all this modernized heavy artillery and
equipment to Russia-led terrorists”.
“We are not asking for the offensive
weapon, we are asking for the defensive weapon just to defend the country. In
case if you support Ukraine in making Ukrainian military more durable and
capable, we are ready to protect your borders, I mean the EU borders. As Russia poses the threat to the European security, to NATO
member-states, and to the entire free world. So this is about the
defensive weapon to protect Ukraine and to defend Europe,” Arseniy
Yatsenyuk emphasized.
