On May 12, Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Pavlo Rozenko met with representatives of the IMF mission led by mission chief Nikolay Gueorguiev and IMF Resident Representative in Ukraine Jerome Vacher.

During the meeting the parties discussed the implementation of the Memorandum between Ukraine and IMF and further reforming of the social sphere. In particular, it was about the reform of subsidies and benefits.

According to Pavlo Rozenko, the Government has taken several important steps to restore order in the system of benefits. "From 1 July 2015 the state social assistance will be provided depending on a person’s income. Benefits to judges, prosecutors and other so-called VIP-beneficiaries have been eliminated, as well as inefficient ones. According to our calculations, it will help save about UAH 1 billion of the budget funds," the Minister said.

In turn, mission chief Nikolay Gueorguiev noted the important role of the Ministry of Social Policy in the development and implementation of reforms in Ukraine. The parties also agreed to hold a separate meeting to discuss pension reform.
